The Welcome Of A Lifetime

As we are driving down a small dirt road 500 yards from the entrance about 100 little Ugandan childern with branches, chanting "aye aye aye" come running towards our bus. Words can never describe the amount of love radiating from all of our hearts. We get out of the bus as small childern start to introduce themselves, shake and hold our hands. They walk with us and continue to give us love instead of standing in line for their evening meal. For some of them this being all they get to eat for the day. We head back to the hotel looking forward with anticipation on what will unfold tomorrow.

Waking Up To Africa

I wake up before the sun does, but anticipate it's rising as orange and purple start to fill the sky beyond the trees and Lake Victoria my excitement continues to build for what lies ahead. I find myself standing at the window over and over again during the next few minutes searching for the change I know will occur. I look out again to see two monkeys playing on the roof below, then another in a nearby tree. I get ready and head for a quick breakfast so I can search out and take pictures of the monkey's. I was hoping for 1 or 2 before I had to hop on the bus at 9 am but to my surprise there are hundreds of monkey's running, playing and eating throughout the grounds of the hotel. Mommies holding and feeding babies, teenagers running wildly with reckless abandonment and older adults watching and remembering their younger days....

My Dream Trip To AFRICA

Since I was a young girl I have had the dream of going to AFRICA. Ever since I remember I not only wanted to go to see the animals but also I have always known that when I got the opportunity to travel the this intriguing country I wanted to work with the people. On June 26th my dream will come true!!! I leave for a 3 week trip to Uganda and Kenya.

My travel companion will be my mother which is another gift. 10 years ago my grandmother on my mothers side past away. I remember a conversation I had about 4 years prior to her death. Her and my grandfather had travel to many countries throughout the world and I asked her if there was any place that she wanted to go to that she never did. She said "AFRICA". I told her she could still go and she said she was to old. After she passed away I thought of this conversation often and promised myself that I would make sure that I went to AFRICA before I felt that I was to old to go. So here I am 41 years old and taking my trip to AFRICA with my mother and my grandmother in spirit. My grandmother died on July 9th and guess what-we will be in AFRICA. My mother and I plan to celebrate my grandmothers life in Uganda on that day.
